At the time of Fang’s birth, composer Brian Woodbury was based in New York, where he met and became partner in crime with Chris Rael. The two did shows together, and collaborated on the singular Bollywood interpretive album Forbidden Kiss by Najma (Shanachie Records). Brian’s own band was the Popular Music Group, a wondrously biting ensemble ripping all we hold dear to shreds, while keeping us humming hooks and laughing along the way. Despite the superb vocals on his Fang release, Woodbury has often deferred from singing since in his career. A protégé of Van Dyke Parks, his formidable composing skills have culminated in some incredible projects featuring casts of stellar vocalists, such as The Brian Woodbury Songbook, the musical Killa Vanilla, his Variety Orchestra, and The Brian Woodbury Theater Songbook. Little bird tells us that a New Popular Music Group may be on the way, stay tuned!
